Business intelligence (BI) comprises the strategies and technologies used by enterprises for the data analysis and management of business information.Common functions of business intelligence technologies include reporting, online analytical processing, analytics, dashboard development, data mining, process mining, complex event processing, business performance management, benchmarking, text mining, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics. BI tools can handle large amounts of structured and sometimes unstructured data to help identify, develop, and otherwise create new strategic business opportunities. They aim to allow for the easy interpretation of these big data. Identifying new opportunities and implementing an effective strategy based on insights can provide businesses with a competitive market advantage and long-term stability, and help them take strategic decisions.

A database is an organized collection of data stored and accessed electronically. Small databases can be stored on a file system, while large databases are hosted on computer clusters or cloud storage. The design of databases spans formal techniques and practical considerations, including data modeling, efficient data representation and storage, query languages, security and privacy of sensitive data, and distributed computing issues, including supporting concurrent access and fault tolerance. A database management system (DBMS) is the software that interacts with end users, applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze the data. The DBMS software additionally encompasses the core facilities provided to administer the database. The sum total of the database, the DBMS and the associated applications can be referred to as a database system. Often the term "database" is also used loosely to refer to any of the DBMS, the database system or an application associated with the database.

    Hi Everyone, I’m checking in about bi&db. As you may have heard by now, your classes will resume beginning the week of January 25th. This class is fully online (substitute delivery mode here), so I am not going to need to make many changes. However, since there are no classes this week, I am going to make some minor changes in this course so that you won’t have any assignments this week, and you won’t have a big pile up of assignments later. Once I’ve made changes to your course, I will post an announcement in D2L with a complete list of the changes made. This announcement will be added by the end of the week. Thx!

    Please don't rely on others' homework! I will evaluate each of you individually anyway. If there are any unclarities, please don't hesitate to contact me either on MS Teams, or via email : louise.sandu@stud.ubb.ro
    I am just as happy to be working with you guys, but you have to remember that no one has to be here if they don't want to!

    Moving on, please don't forget to update your assignment on MS Teams as soon as 10th December 23:59. After that, the Google form you will also have to fill in will no longer receive answers.
    I will propose a revision session with you - if, of course, there are people willing to do so. I think it is important to sort things out now, and not during your exam week.
